Insight Communications Co. is a cable television system operator and serves approximately 1.4 million customers, all of which are concentrated in the four contiguous states of Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio. Insight Midwest, L.P. is a partnership owned 50% by the Company and 50% by an indirect subsidiary of Comcast Cable Holdings, LLC (formerly known as AT&T Broadband, LLC), which is a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation. Insight Midwest owns systems serving approximately 1.3 million of the Company's customers. On November 18, 2002, Comcast Corporation acquired the broadband business of AT&T Corp. Insight Communications also manages additional systems in Indiana and Kentucky owned by an affiliate of Comcast Cable.
Insight Communications offers high-speed data service for personal computers (PCs) for all of its upgraded systems through its own regional network branded Insightbb.com, except for its Columbus, Ohio, system, which utilizes the RoadRunner service. AT&T Corp. provides the Internet protocol (IP) network backbone for the Company's Insightbb.com service and certain core Internet support functions. As of December 31, 2002, high-speed data services were made available in two million of its homes and served approximately 144,800 of its customers.
